Volleyball Earns First Win Of 2008 Season

TAMPA, Fla. –
Eastern Kentucky University’s volleyball team earned its first win of the 2008 season by beating Grambling State University, 3-2, Saturday at the University of South Florida Invitational. The Colonels (1-2) lost 3-0 to South Florida in their first match of the day.

Eastern Kentucky won the first two sets, 25-16 and 25-12, before Grambling rallied to tie the match at 2-2 by winning the third set 25-20 and the fourth set 25-19. The Colonels secured the victory with a 15-9 win in the fifth set.

Newcomer Lindsey Loescher led Eastern with 14 kills and added seven digs. Freshman Hannah Groudle turned in her first career double digit kill total with 11. Freshman Jill Henneman totaled 35 assists and Abby O'Connor led the squad with 12 digs.

South Florida picked up a shutout (25-11, 25-14, 25-14) of Eastern earlier in the day. Loescher had a team-high nine kills and seven digs.

Eastern Kentucky will return to action on Friday when they begin play in the Pitt Classic hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. The Colonels will play Pitt at 1 p.m. and Binghamton at 5 p.m.
