LEXINGTON, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky’s volleyball team will play three matches this weekend in the University of Kentucky Invitational. On Friday, the Colonels (1-5) will open play by facing the University of Albany. On Saturday, EKU will take on UK at noon and Indiana University at 5 p.m.
Eastern Kentucky has dropped three straight matches and will begin conference play next weekend. The Colonels are led by newcomer Lindsey Loescher. The junior averages 2.52 kills and 1.62 digs per game. She has a team-high 53 kills through six matches. Freshman Jill Henneman has been forced into the starting setter role. She is averaging six assists per game. Senior Amanda Wilson is averaging a team-high 0.29 blocks per game to go along with 1.52 kills per game.
Albany, last season’s American East champions, is off to a 3-3 start. The Great Danes opened the season with wins over Wright State, Connecticut and Buffalo, but have lost three straight to west-coast teams.
The Wildcats are 6-2 this season and have a win over Pittsburgh, a team that beat the Colonels. Indiana is 4-2 overall with wins against San Francisco, Valparaiso, Wake Forest and Louisville.
