Colonels Shooting For Fourth Straight Home Win Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team hopes to finish the month of January with a win Saturday night against visiting Tennessee State. Tip time in McBrayer Arena is set for 8 p.m.

A win for Eastern Kentucky (12-9, 5-5 OVC) would push the Colonels’ OVC record over the .500 plateau for the first time all season and earn the home team a season series split with Tennessee State. EKU is coming off a thrilling 73-70 overtime victory over OVC leader Austin Peay. The Colonels forced Austin Peay into a season-high 23 turnovers Tuesday night while senior Mike Rose paced Eastern with 25 points and six steals.

Tennessee State (6-14, 4-6 OVC) has lost five of six overall including a 94-73 setback at Morehead State on Thursday. The Tigers are just 1-10 on the road this year and have lost eight straight away from the Gentry Center. Three players average double figures led by Gerald Robinson with 18.1 ppg. Jerrell Houston averages 13.0 ppg and 6.7 rpg. Parker Smith is TSU’s leading three-point shooter (41.2 percent) and chipped in with 17 points at Morehead State.

Tennessee State has won three straight meetings over EKU in McBrayer Arena. The all-time series is tied at 22-apiece.

Following the Tennessee State game, Eastern Kentucky returns to the road and will face Tennessee Tech on Thursday, Feb. 5.
