Colonels Aiming to Even Their OVC Record Saturday Against TTU

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University athletics department is sponsoring the ‘Take a Kid to the Game’ promotion for Saturday’s basketball contest against Tennessee Tech. All children ages 12 and under can get into the game for FREE. The game, presented by Yellowbook, tips off at 7 p.m.

Eastern Kentucky (8-7, 2-3 OVC) ended its four-game losing skid Thursday with a convincing win over Jacksonville State. The Colonels netted a season-high 73.7 percent (14-of-19) of their field goal attempts inside the arc against Jacksonville State. EKU also shot 50 percent (52.3) overall from the field for the first time in nine games. Eastern is 5-0 when shooting at least 50 percent in 2008-09.

Tennessee Tech (8-6, 2-2 OVC) had its two game winning streak snapped Thursday night in a 64-62 loss at Morehead State. The Golden Eagles are 1-4 on the road this year and have lost four straight games away from home. Junior guard D.J. Lindsay led TTU with 20 points and three assists at Morehead State. Junior center Daniel Northern, the team’s leading scorer (11.7 ppg) and the league’s third leading rebounder (7.9 rpg), was held to six points and six boards in the loss to Morehead State.

The Colonels have won three of the last four meetings against the Golden Eagles at home including a double-overtime 92-90 decision in 2006-07. Eastern Kentucky scored a season-high 87 points at Tennessee Tech one year ago. Eastern leads the all-time series, 64-52.

Following the Tennessee Tech game, The Colonels begin a four-game road swing on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Eastern Illinois. EKU has won four straight meetings against the Panthers in Charleston.
