Volleyball Hosts Two OVC Matches This Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky will host a pair of Ohio Valley Conference matches this weekend. On Friday, the Colonels (0-12, 0-3 OVC) face Southeast Missouri State (6-8, 3-2 OVC) at 7 p.m. On Saturday, EKU will host Eastern Illinois (7-10, 1-4 OVC) at 2 p.m.

The Colonels have been led this season by senior Lindsey Loescher and junior newcomer Lauren Snyder. Loescher has a team-best 103 kills. Snyder has 95 kills. Both players are tied for a team-best seven aces, and both average more than a dig and a half per set.

Junior Autumn Harms is third on the team with 74 kills. Junior #Abby O’Connor# leads the squad with 197 digs and ranks second in the OVC with an average of 5.05 digs per set.

In its last match, Eastern lost to Morehead State, 3-0, on Sept. 24 in the Colonels’ 2009 home opener. Loescher finished with 10 kills to lead EKU. MSU held a 12 to four advantage in blocks and out-hit Eastern .292 to .048. Loescher contributed seven digs for the Colonels. O’Connor posted a match-high 22 digs.

Southeast Missouri has won three of its last five matches, all against conference teams. The Redhawks have road wins at Tennessee Tech (3-2) and Tennessee-Martin (3-0), and a home-court victory over Tennessee State (3-2). SEMO has lost at Jacksonville State (0-3) and at home to Austin Peay (0-3).

Emily Hughes leads the team with 152 kills and 32 blocks. She has a .265 attack percentage. Karleigh DeLong has 138 kills (3.37 per set) and 144 digs (3.51 per set). Molly Davis leads the team and the OVC with 316 digs. Sarah Barth (236) and Kelly Benacka (206) both have over 200 assists for the Redhawks.

Eastern Illinois enters the weekend having lost three straight matches after shutting out Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. The Panthers lost at Murray State (1-3), and at home to Tennessee State (1-3) and Austin Peay (0-3).

Alex Zwettler leads EIU with 211 kills and is second on the squad with 201 digs. Three Panthers have 40 or more blocks; Stephanie Arnold (49), Melanie Boykins (43) and Jessica Wheeler (41). Wheeler also has a team-best 18 aces.

Eastern Illinois will play at Morehead State on Friday night.
