RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team plays host to OVC foe Southeast Missouri this Saturday. All kids 12-and-under will be admitted free as part of the “Take a Kid to the Game” promotion. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
Eastern Kentucky (4-3, 4-2 OVC) is coming off a disappointing loss at Austin Peay last weekend. The Colonels surrendered a season-high 263 rushing yards in the 24-20 defeat. EKU’s offense posted all 20 of its points in the second quarter, but was unable to score in the second half for the first time this year. A win over Southeast Missouri (1-6, 0-5 OVC) would ensure Eastern a winning OVC record for the ninth straight year.
The Redhawks are the only team in the league yet to earn a conference victory. In last week’s game at Tennessee Tech, Southeast Missouri reached the red zone four times, but managed to score just one touchdown in the 28-16 loss. This will be SEMO’s final road game of the season. The Redhawks conclude their schedule with three home games. Southeast Missouri has lost its three OVC road games by an average of eight points.
Eastern Kentucky won the first 12 meetings between the two schools before Southeast Missouri prevailed in 2002, 35-21. The Colonels have scored at least 21 points in the last 10 contests with SEMO. Four years ago, tight end Patrick Bugg caught the game-winning 23-yard touchdown pass with 1.4 seconds left to lift EKU to a 33-32 win.
Following the game against Southeast Missouri, Eastern Kentucky steps away from OVC action for games against Kentucky (Nov. 7) and Western Carolina (Nov. 14).
