Volleyball Hosts Two Matches This Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky will put its five-match home court winning streak on the line this weekend. The Colonels (5-16, 4-7 OVC) will play Tennessee State Friday night at 7 p.m., and then face Austin Peay on Saturday at noon.

EKU is coming off a 3-1 win over Southern Illinois Edwardsville last Saturday. Senior Lindsey Loescher and sophomore Hannah Groudle each finished with 14 kills against the Cougars. Loescher added 13 digs. Groudle contributed four block assists. Junior Lauren Snyder finished with 13 kills and three aces. Junior Autumn Harms posted 12 kills, a .421 attack percentage and four block solos.

Junior #Abby O’Connor totaled a match-best 29 digs and junior Kate Hendle# added a match-best 52 assists.

Tennessee State (3-20, 2-9 OVC) has won twice in its last 21 matches. The Tigers have a pair of conference road wins, a 3-1 victory at Eastern Illinois and a sweep at Tennessee-Martin. This past weekend TSU dropped a pair of five-set matches at home against Southeast Missouri and Eastern Illinois.

Shaquita Williams leads the team with an average of 2.45 kills per set. Vicmari Prospero has a team-best 55 blocks and 31 service aces.

Austin Peay (17-6, 10-2 OVC) enters weekend play second in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. The Lady Govs have won six of their last seven, including a 3-2 victory over the Colonels on Oct. 6 in Clarksville, Tenn. APSU swept Eastern Illinois and Southeast Missouri last weekend.

Stephanie Champine has earned OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors four times this year for Austin Peay, including this past week. The senior outside hitter leads the conference with an average of 4.39 kills per set.

As a team, the Lady Govs lead the OVC with a .225 attack percentage and hold their opponents to a conference-best .153 hitting percentage.
