EKU Sweeps Weekly OVC Volleyball Awards, Plays At APSU Tuesday

Members of the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team earned all three of the weekly Ohio Valley Conference awards. Lauren Snyder was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week, Abby O'Connor was chosen as Defensive Player of the Week, and Kate Hendle was recognized as the Setter of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

The three Colonels led the team to a pair of wins this past weekend over Southeast Missouri State and Eastern Illinois. 

Eastern (2-12, 2-3 OVC) will put its two-match winning streak on the line at Austin Peay on Tuesday. The match in Clarksville, Tenn., is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET.

Snyder averaged 5.67 kills per set and hit .431 in the two matches combined. The junior from Fort Mitchell, Ky., recorded a career-best 30 kills on Friday against Southeast Missouri State. She hit .446, added 11 digs, served up three aces, had three block assists and two assists against the Redhawks. On Saturday in a victory over Eastern Illinois, Snyder finished with 21 kills and only two errors in 46 attacks for a .413 attack percentage. She also contributed nine digs, two aces, two block assists and an assist.

O’Connor, a junior, averaged 7.56 digs per set in the two matches combined. Against Southeast Missouri, O’Connor tied her career-high with 32 digs in a five-set win over the Redhawks. On Saturday, O’Connor set a new career-best with 36 digs against EIU. The Maineville, Ohio, native also added two aces and six assists in the two matches combined.

Hendle averaged 12.89 assists and 1.33 kills per set over the weekend. The junior from McHenry, Ill., set a new career-high with 66 assists on Friday. She added 50 assists against Eastern Illinois. Hendle totaled 12 kills, a .310 attack percentage and 30 digs in the two matches combined.

The Lady Govs are tied for second place in the OVC with a 5-1 record and stand 11-5 overall. APSU won five straight league games before falling on Saturday to Jacksonville State, 3-2, at home.

Stephanie Champine leads Austin Peay with 231 kills (4.05 per set). She also contributes 3.23 digs and 0.37 blocks per set. Jessica Mollman and Taylor Skinner lead the team in blocks, with 36 and 35 respectively. Skinner also has a team-best 22 aces.

The Lady Govs have hit .211 this season while holding opponents to a .142 attack percentage. APSU has been out-blocked 101 to 88.

Snyder leads Eastern Kentucky with 146 kills (3.11 per set) and 12 aces. She also averages 1.70 digs and 0.23 blocks per set. Senior Lindsey Loescher has 135 kills and 11 aces. O’Connor is second in the OVC with an average of 5.52 digs per set.
