CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky trailed 1-0, came back to take a 2-1 lead but couldn’t hold off Austin Peay State University and lost 3-2 on Tuesday night in Clarksville.
Lauren Snyder led the Colonels (2-13, 2-4 OVC) with 24 kills. Stephanie Champine posted a match-best 29 kills for the Lady Govs (12-5, 6-1 OVC).
Game scores were 25-23, 20-25, 15-25, 25-15 and 16-14.
Snyder recorded a double-double, adding 13 digs. The junior hit .281.
Autumn Harms finished with 14 kills and four blocks. She made only two errors in 32 total attempts for a .375 attack percentage. #Abby O’Connor# registered 27 digs.
Champine hit .441 after making just three errors in 59 total attacks. She also added 13 digs. Ilyanna Hernandez contributed 12 kills and 10 digs for Austin Peay.
The Colonels trailed 14-12 in the fifth set after a kill by Champine. However, Eastern staved off defeat, scoring the next two points. Back-to-back kills by Snyder tied the score at 14-14, but another kill by Champine gave the Lady Govs match-point and an EKU attack error ended play.
Eastern Kentucky hit .263 for the match. APSU had limited its opponents this season to a .142 hitting percentage.
The Colonels return to action on Friday when Murray State University visits McBrayer Arena. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
