RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University’s volleyball match scheduled for Friday at Eastern Illinois University has been postponed. The Colonels will face Southeast Missouri State on Saturday in Cape Girardeau, Mo. A make-up date has not been set for the EIU match.
Eastern Illinois has cancelled all athletic events this weekend out of respect for women’s basketball assistant coach Jackie Moore who passed away on Wednesday.
The match against SEMO on Saturday is schedule to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
As the regular season reaches its final two weekends, the match at Southeast Missouri will go a long way in determining the six-team field for the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference tournament. The Redhawks (11-15, 6-8 OVC) are currently in sixth place. The Colonels (6-17, 5-8 OVC) are a half game behind SEMO.
A win on Saturday would move EKU into sixth place and give the Colonels the edge in the tiebreaker, having swept Southeast Missouri this season.
Eastern Kentucky is 6-5 and its last 11 matches, including winning two of its last three. The Colonels will be looking for their first road win of the season. Eastern is 6-2 at home but is 0-15 away from McBrayer Arena. Southeast Missouri takes a two-match winning streak into Friday’s home match against Morehead State.
The Redhawks beat UT Martin (3-0) on Saturday and SIU Edwardsville (3-1) on Tuesday.
