Colonels Open Home Schedule Against Tennessee Tech

RICHMOND, Ky. – The lights will be on Saturday night at Roy Kidd Stadium as the Eastern Kentucky University football team hosts OVC foe Tennessee Tech in the league opener for both teams. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.

#22 Eastern Kentucky (0-1, 0-0 OVC) is coming off an open week after beginning the year with a narrow 19-13 loss at Indiana on Sept. 3. The Colonels are 43-18 all-time in OVC openers. This is the first time in four years that Eastern Kentucky has opened conference action at home. From 1981-99, Eastern won 19 consecutive league openers. Tennessee Tech ended that streak in 2000 with a 9-3 victory in Richmond.

Tennessee Tech (1-0, 0-0 OVC) began its season with a 51-10 thumping over Pikeville College on Sept. 10. The Golden Eagles scored touchdowns on their first five possessions and never looked back. Senior quarterback Lee Sweeney completed 14-of-18 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown in the win. Last year, TTU finished the season by dropping its final seven OVC games. The Golden Eagles were picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll.

Eastern Kentucky owns 48 all-time victories over Tennessee Tech, second most in the school annals, just behind EKU’s 49 wins against Morehead State. Eastern has won four straight against TTU in Richmond by an average of 25 points. In the 2008 meeting, the Colonels forced three turnovers and added a blocked punt in the 33-12 win.

Following Saturday night’s game, the Colonels return to the road to face OVC rival Murray State on Sept. 26.
