RICHMOND, Ky. – Two original members of the Ohio Valley Conference square off Saturday night when the Eastern Kentucky University football team travels to Murray State. Kick-off is set for 8 p.m. ET.
#20 Eastern Kentucky (1-1, 1-0 OVC) will be looking to move to 2-0 in conference play for just the third time this decade. The Colonel defense has been the headline story the first two games this year. EKU has held each of its first two opponents to less than 100 yards rushing and has not allowed any second half points. Eastern’s offense will continue to use both junior
Cody Watts and redshirt freshman #T.J. Pryor# at quarterback.
Murray State (1-2, 0-0 OVC) has lost its last two games after opening the year with a 66-10 win over Kentucky Wesleyan. The Racers turned the ball over four times last Saturday in a 35-10 loss to Missouri State. Two of the turnovers were returned for touchdowns by the Bears. Junior quarterback Jeff Ehrhardt threw for a season-high 250 yards at Missouri State. Preseason All-American defensive end Austen Lane paces the Racers with five tackles for loss and two sacks through three games.
This is the 65th consecutive season Eastern Kentucky and Murray State have met on the football field. The two teams have combined to win 28 OVC crowns. The Colonels have won seven of the last eight contests overall while averaging 37.7 points per game in the victories. In 2007, EKU RB Bobby Washington set an OVC record with a 99-yard touchdown run to open the scoring. Last year, EKU RB #C.J. Walker# rushed for a career-high 225 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Following Saturday night’s game, Eastern Kentucky will play its third road contest in four games on Oct. 3 at Eastern Illinois.
