Saturday Night Showdown in McBrayer Arena

RICHMOND, Ky. – Ohio Valley Conference basketball rivals Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State meet for the first of two meetings in 2009-10 Saturday night in McBrayer Arena. The game, presented by Coca-Cola, is set to tip off at 7:07 p.m.

Before the game, the Eastern Kentucky University Department of Athletics will unveil the All-Century Men’s Basketball team which is comprised of six guards, nine forwards/centers and a head coach. The ceremony will take place in the Fred Darling Auxiliary Gymnasium beginning at 6 p.m. Click here for more information on 100 Years of EKU Men's Basketball.

Both teams enter the contest riding significant winning streaks. Eastern (14-6, 6-2 OVC) has won 19 straight home games, setting a McBrayer Arena record, dating back to December 2008. The winning streak is the sixth longest active streak in the nation. The Colonels are averaging 76.5 ppg while shooting 51.1 percent from the floor in 11 home games in 2009-10.

Morehead State (13-6, 7-1 OVC) is the hottest team in the OVC as the Eagles have won nine straight games. Junior center Kenneth Faried has notched 13 double-doubles this year and leads the nation in rebounding at 13.2 rpg. Faried also ranks second in the OVC in scoring at 16.4 ppg. Senior guard Maze Stallworth, the team’s top three-point threat, went 0-for-7 from behind the arc against SIU Edwardsville on Jan. 19.

Morehead State has won four of the last five meetings including a 91-72 decision in the 2009 OVC tournament quarterfinals. The Eagles tallied season highs in three-pointers made (12) and three-point field goal percentage (54.5 percent) in that game. EKU leads the all-time series, 101-70.

Following the Morehead State game, Eastern Kentucky hits the road for a pair of OVC games at Austin Peay (Jan. 28) and Tennessee State (Jan. 30).
