Colonels Going For Season Sweep of Tigers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team finishes its two-game road trip Sunday afternoon at Tennessee State. Tip time in snow-covered Nashville is set for 6 p.m. ET.

EKU (14-8, 6-4 OVC) will try to move to 3-3 in OVC road games Sunday at Tennessee State. The Colonels won just two OVC road games all of last year. Junior Justin Stommes is averaging 14.4 ppg and shooting 58.1 percent (25-of-43) from the floor in OVC road games.

Tennessee State (4-18, 1-9) has dropped five straight games since a 73-59 decision over UT Maritn on Jan. 9. The Tigers scored a season-low 50 points in their most recent game on Jan. 28 against Morehead State. Darius Cox and Jacquan Nobles each scored 10 points against the Eagles. Tennessee State made just 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) three-point shots in that loss.

EKU leads the all-time series by a count of 24-22. The Colonels will be shooting for their first season sweep of Tennessee State since the 2002-03 season. Eastern has won three of the last four meetings in the Gentry Center.

Following the Tennessee State game, Eastern Kentucky returns home to face Tennessee Tech on Feb. 4.

Storylines

-- Sophomore Joshua Jones equaled a season-high with 16 points at Austin Peay Thursday night. Over the last four games, Jones is shooting 75 percent (8-of-12) from behind the three-point arc. Jones leads the league in three-point shooting at 47.7 percent.

-- In the first meeting against Tennessee State, the Colonels attempted a season-low 12 three-pointers. Senior Josh Taylor paced EKU in scoring (17 points) and rebounds (six) against TSU on Jan. 2.
