MARTIN, Tenn.
– UT Martin earned its first ever win over the Eastern Kentucky University football team Saturday as the host Skyhawks earned a hard fought 10-7 win. The Colonels (2-4, 1-1 OVC) had been 20-0 all-time against UT Martin (3-4, 3-2) before today’s game.

UT Martin quarterback Derek Carr found Daniel Chamberlain for a 28-yard touchdown completion with 5:06 left in the game to give the Skyhawks the win.

Eastern Kentucky held a 7-3 lead through much of the game and missed a few chances to extend that lead.

The Colonels marched 65 yards on 15 plays on their second possession of the game to take a 7-0 lead. Sophomore quarterback #T.J. Pryor# capped the time-consuming drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge.

UTM quickly moved into scoring territory on its ensuing drive thanks to a 42-yard pass from Carr to Ben Everett. However, the Colonels held the Skyhawks at the 12-yard line and conceded a 29-yard field goal.

EKU had a chance to extend its lead in the second and third quarter, but missed two field goals. Senior #Logan O’Connor#’s first attempt was 37 yards, but the ball never got past the line of scrimmage as the Skyhawks blocked the kick. The Colonels then moved the ball all the way to the UT Martin 13-yard line late in the third quarter only to see O’Connor’s 32-yard field goal attempt miss wide left.

The Skyhawks converted two third down attempts on their game-winning drive, including the 28-yard winning touchdown pass where UTM faced a 3rd-and-7.

Eastern had one final opportunity to tie the game, but O’Connor’s 53-yard field goal attempt with 2:11 remaining came up just short.

Pryor was only 4-of-10 passing for 33 yards. Meanwhile, running back #H.B. Banjoman# tallied a career-high 70 yards on the ground in his first start of the season.

Carr threw for 290 yards for UT Martin, including 205 yards in the second half. The Skyhawks outgained the Colonels, 223 to 77, in the second half.

The Colonels are on the road again next Saturday, Oct. 23 at Southeast Missouri. Game time is set 2 p.m.
