EKU Takes on OVC Rival Murray State During Homecoming Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team looks to end a two-game losing skid Saturday when the Colonels host long-time rival Murray State. Wazoo Sports will be televising the game live beginning at 3 p.m.

Eastern (2-5, 1-2 OVC) faces a tough test this week from Murray State (3-4, 2-2). The Racers have won three of their last four games while averaging 49 points per game in that stretch. Murray State leads the OVC and ranks fourth nationally in passing yards per game (307.0). On the other hand, the Colonel defense ranks last in the league in passing yards allowed per game (233.4).

The Colonel offense has sputtered the last two weeks, scoring just three total touchdowns. However, Murray State’s defense has been prone to giving up plenty of yards and points to opposing offenses. The Racers rank eighth out of nine OVC teams in scoring defense (33.6 ppg) and total defense (400.1 ypg).

This is the 66th consecutive season Eastern Kentucky and Murray State have met on the football field. Both schools are original members of the Ohio Valley Conference which formed in 1948. The two teams have combined to win 28 OVC crowns. The Maroons have won eight of the last nine meetings against Murray State.
