RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky lost 3-2 to Southeast Missouri on Saturday at McBrayer Arena. The Colonels fall to 10-14 overall and 9-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Redhawks picked up their third conference victory, improving to 6-18 on the season and 3-10 in league matches.
The two teams took turns winning by large margins. SEMO opened by winning the first set by eight, 25-17. EKU won by 11, 25-14, in the second set. Southeast went on top 2-1 after a five-point victory in the third set. The Colonels evened the match with a 25-10 set four win. The final and decisive set remained close throughout. The Redhawks captured the victory by winning 15-12.
Statistically, Eastern Kentucky held the advantage in nearly every category but the final score. The Colonels totaled seven more kills and one less error while out-hitting SEMO .157 to .122. Eastern had six more aces, five more digs and two more blocks than the visitors.
Ashley Edmond finished with a match-best 17 kills for Eastern Kentucky. She had five errors in 41 attempts for a .293 attack percentage.
Autumn Harms finished with 15 kills and seven total blocks. #Abby O’Connor
totaled 36 digs while Kelsey Rose# finished with 19.
The winners were led by Andrea Baylin with 14 kills to go along with 19 digs. Claire Keaton added 13 kills and 18 digs.
In the decisive fifth set, Southeast Missouri scored three straight to push out to a 7-4 lead. The Colonels stayed close and ultimately tied the set 10-10 on a kill by Edmond, however EKU could never grab the lead. Back-to-back kills by Karlee Lursen put the Redhawks back in front by two, 12-10. A kill by Harms cut the deficit to one, 13-12, before SEMO finished off the match on a kill by Emily Hughes and an Eastern attack error.
The Colonels will host rival Morehead State on Thursday at McBrayer Arena. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
