Colonels Open Home Schedule Wednesday Night

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team opens its 2010-11 home schedule Wednesday night against future OVC opponent SIU Edwardsville. Fans can get into the game for FREE with a canned food donation. Tip time is set for 7:30 p.m.

Eastern Kentucky (1-2) has won 12 consecutive home openers dating back to the 1997-98 season when Berea College upended the Colonels on Nov. 18, 1997, 94-88. EKU won a program record 15 games in McBrayer Arena last year, marking the ninth straight year the Colonels have notched a winning home record.

Eastern Kentucky has had a different leading scorer in each of the first three games. Newcomer Devin McDonald chipped in with a game-high 18 points against Indiana State while fellow newcomer Jeff Allgood tallied 14 points against UTPA.

SIU Edwardsville (0-2) is playing nine games against OVC opponents this year, including two against the Colonels. SIUE begins OVC regular season competition in 2011-12.

Storylines
--Senior Josh Daniel will be making his 100th appearance in a Colonel uniform Wednesday night. Daniel tied a career high with 17 points, thanks in part to going 5-for-5 at the charity stripe, against Indiana State on Nov. 14.

--Senior Justin Stommes needs 39 more points to reach 1,000 for his collegiate career. The preseason All-OVC selection led Eastern in scoring (14.2 ppg), assists (3.5 apg) and minutes played (32.5 mpg) in 2009-10. Stommes was suspended for the first three games due to a violation of team rules.
