RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team begins a three-game road stretch Thursday at Southeast Missouri. Tip time is set for 8:45 p.m. ET.
The Colonels (17-8, 9-4 OVC) will be looking to earn back-to-back road victories for the first time in more than a year. However, EKU is 3-3 in OVC road games this year while shooting 51.3 percent from the floor. Junior
Justin Stommes has been very impressive in recent OVC road games, averaging 20.3 ppg while shooting 59.6 percent from the floor and 53.6 percent from three-point range spanning the last four away contests.
Southeast Missouri (7-17, 3-10) dropped its fifth consecutive OVC game Tuesday night in a 73-70 loss to UT Martin. The Redhawks led by as many as 17 points in the first half, but faded down the stretch. Guard Anthony Allison led SEMO with 18 points while guard Sam Pearson added 11 points and eight assists. Allison paces the team in scoring at 10.4 ppg while forward LaMont Russell ranks third in the OVC in rebounding at 6.9 rpg.
The Colonels have won four straight meetings over the Redhawks and lead the all-time series by a count of 19-17. The last time these teams met in Cape Girardeau, former Colonel
Mike Rose hit a buzzer-beater three-pointer to give EKU a 74-71 victory.
Following the Southeast Missouri game, Eastern Kentucky continues the road trip Saturday at Eastern Illinois.
