RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team opened its 2010 fall schedule this past weekend at the UVa Classic in Charlottesville, Va. Nine out of the 17 teams competing in the UVa Classic were ranked among the top 75 teams in the nation.
The player of the weekend was junior
Parul Verma. Verma won three straight matches to reach the finals in the black singles bracket. However, Virginia’s Brian Fang won the title match in a third-set tie-breaker. Verma dropped the first set to Fang, but battled back to win the second set and even had a match point in the third.
EKU’s top player, senior
Alex Das lost his first match but bounced back and won his last three including a three-set victory over N.C. State’s Sean Weber.
Meanwhile, junior
Carles Pons placed third in the green singles bracket.
Eastern players finished 12-13 overall in singles action.
