RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team will host Presbyterian on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and then travel to play Detroit Mercy on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the Colonels’ final non-conference weekend of the season.

EKU (1-4-2) opens conference play on Friday, Sept. 24, with a home game against defending OVC champion Murray State.

“This is our last opportunity before conference play starts,” head coach Lindsay Basalyga. “Our goal going into the weekend is to treat these games like conference games and focus on getting results, getting points.”

Since falling at home to Wright State on Sept. 3, the Colonels have played two quality opponents, Valparaiso and Western Kentucky, to draws.

EKU battled in-state rival WKU to a 1-1 draw last weekend as freshman Janelle Coates scored her first collegiate goal in the 36th minute to tie the score. Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Lynch played all 110 minutes of the game and made a season-best nine saves.

The Colonel defense has yielded only two goals over its last 220 minutes of soccer. The backline is led by junior Stephanie Murray, who has played all 670 minutes this season. Sophomores Katie Collar (634 minutes) and Deja Tennon (592 minutes) have also logged substantial playing time on the backline.

Presbyterian comes into this weekend with a record of 1-5-1. The Blue Hose tied Navy, 2-2, on Aug. 22 and won their only game of the year at home against North Florida on Sept. 3. Stephanie Aaron and Tori Lopez lead Presbyterian with a goal and an assist apiece.

Friday’s game will be the first meeting between EKU and Presbyterian.

Detroit Mercy hosts Central Michigan on Friday, but begins this weekend with a 3-2-2 record and wins over Madonna (Mich.), IUPUI and Eastern Michigan. The Titans’ only losses have come against Michigan and Pepperdine. Abby McCollum leads Detroit Mercy with three goals (two game winners) and three assists.

EKU is 2-0 all-time against Detroit Mercy, with their last meeting ending in a 1-0 Colonel win in 2007.
