Volleyball Opens OVC Play At Home On Friday

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky’s volleyball team will play its first home match, and first conference match of the season on Friday against Tennessee Tech. The Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams will begin at 7 p.m.

The Colonels will host defending OVC champion Jacksonville State on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Eastern has started the 2010 season with a 1-8 record, while Tennessee Tech enters Friday’s match at 2-9. The eight teams that EKU has lost to this season are a combined 47-31 with a 60 percent winning percentage. Three teams – Valparaiso (10-1), North Carolina State (8-1) and Appalachian State (8-2) – have won eight or more matches.

Eastern Kentucky has been led this season by freshman Ashley Edmond and senior Lauren Snyder.

Edmond leads the team with 98 kills, six service aces and 111 points. She is second on the team with 64 digs (2.00 per set) and third on the squad with 13 total blocks. Edmond ranks fifth in the OVC with an average of 3.06 kills per set and fifth with an average of 3.48 points per set.

Edmond posted her first collegiate double-double against Valparaiso on Sept. 4, finishing with 18 kills and 18 digs. Later that day in a match against South Carolina-Upstate, Edmond recorded a season-best 20 kills.

Snyder averages 3.00 kills and 1.21 digs per set. Hannah Groudle and Autumn Harms lead the team with 17 and 16 blocks respectively. Senior #Abby O’Connor#’s average of 5.66 digs per set is the best in the conference.
