RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team will continue conference play this weekend as it hosts Tennessee Tech on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at EKU Soccer Field. The Colonels (5-4-2, 2-0-0 OVC) have won four straight games are currently tied with Morehead State atop the OVC standings.

“We’re taking it one game at a time because we’re only as good as our next result,” head coach Lindsay Basalyga said. “We’re looking forward to this game because it’s our final home game before we go on a four game road trip.”

The surging Colonels are fresh off a weekend in which they defeated the 2009 OVC Tournament champion, Murray State, on Friday, 1-0, and then defeated the 2009 OVC regular season champion, UT Martin, on Sunday, 2-1. The EKU backline has allowed only three goals in the Colonels’ last six games and freshman forward Nicole Donnelly, recognized as a national Primetime Performer of the Week on Tuesday by the website CollegeSoccer360.com, has scored three game-winners in the Colonels’ last four games.

EKU’s recent strong play was legitimized this week as the Colonels swept the weekly OVC soccer awards. Donnelly was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore Katie Collar was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week and senior Stephanie Lynch was named the OVC Goalkeeper of the Week. It was the second time in program history Colonels had won all three awards in the same week and the first time since Sept. 8, 2009.

TTU is led by first-year head coach Daniel Brizard and enters this weekend with a record of 2-7-0, with wins over UNC Asheville and Georgia Southern. The Golden Eagles have not yet played a conference game; however, they will play at Morehead State on Friday before heading to Richmond for Sunday’s action.

Andrea Meloff leads the Golden Eagles with three goals, including one game-winner, while Kerri Reid has record one goal and two assists on the season.

TTU leads the all-time series between the two schools, 3-2. The Golden Eagles have won the last two games in the series, including a 2-1 overtime win at EKU Soccer Field last year. Current TTU forward Jen Hoffman scored both of the Golden Eagles’ goals in that game while current Colonel Deja Tennon scored EKU’s lone goal.

This is EKU’s last home game until Oct. 24. The Colonels go on the road next weekend to face Southeast Missouri on Friday and Eastern Illinois on Sunday.
