Gameweek: Colonels Return Home to Host Southeast Missouri Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team welcomes defending OVC champion Southeast Missouri to Roy Kidd Stadium Saturday afternoon. All kids 12-and-under get into the game for free. Kick-off is slated for 3 p.m.

It’s been four weeks since EKU (2-3, 1-1 OVC) played its last game at Roy Kidd Stadium. The Colonels have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success against conference teams at home under head coach Dean Hood. Eastern has won six straight OVC games at home and is 11-1 overall at Roy Kidd Stadium against league teams in Coach Hood’s tenure.

Southeast Missouri (1-4, 1-2) was stunned by Tennessee State in its most recent contest, 55-3. Running back Levi Terrell suffered a broken collarbone at TSU and will miss the rest of the season. However, 2010 All-OVC quarterback Matt Scheible is on pace to become the first quarterback in league history to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 2,000 yards in a career. SEMO has struggled on the defensive side of the ball this year as the Redhawks give up an average of 44 points per game.

Southeast Missouri pulled away from EKU last year in the 40-21 win. The Redhawks ran for 231 yards including 86 yards from Scheible. The SEMO quarterback also threw for 177 yards and three scores. Six years ago, TE Patrick Bugg caught the game-winning 23-yard touchdown pass with 1.4 seconds left to lift EKU to a 33-32 win.

--Eastern Kentucky ran for 374 yards in the win over Eastern Illinois last week, which was the highest total by an EKU team since the Colonels rumbled for 475 yards versus Glenville State in 2001. Junior RB Matt Denham piled up a career-high 216 yards against the Panthers. Denham had totaled 373 career rushing yards leading into the EIU game.

--Sophomore K Luke Pray’s 49-yard field goal at Eastern Illinois was the longest successful EKU kick since Taylor Long netted a 50-yard attempt on Oct. 25, 2008 against EIU.
