CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
Eastern Kentucky and Southeast Missouri entered tonight’s match tied for third in the Ohio Valley Conference volleyball standings, but the Redhawks walked away with a 3-1 victory to take the edge.

SEMO (9-12, 7-3 OVC) won by scores of 13-25, 25-21, 26-24 and 25-20.

Ashley Edmond led Eastern (11-10, 6-4 OVC) with a match-best 22 kills.  She hit .280 with nine digs and a block.  Hannah Burkle added 19 kills, a .389 attack percentage and four blocks.  Dena Ott led all players with 21 digs.

Colleen Yarber posted a team-high 18 kills for Southeast Missouri.  She committed only three errors in 36 attempts for a .417 attack percentage.

EKU had five more kills and five more digs than SEMO, but the Redhawks held a 6-4 edge in blocks and committed three fewer service errors.

After each team won one of the first two sets, the third proved to be the key set.  Southeast built a four-point lead, 17-13, on a kill by Yarber.  However, Eastern stayed in the match and tied the score five times but could never take the lead.  A kill by Yarber gave SEMO set-point, 24-23, before Eastern tied it for the final time.  The Redhawks scored the final to points to win the set and the momentum.

The Colonels will continue their road trip at Murray State on Saturday.  The match is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET.
