RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky volleyball team completed a weekend sweep by beating Tennessee Tech 3-0 on Saturday.  The Colonels shutout Jacksonville State on Friday and have now won five of their past six matches.

EKU (11-9, 6-3 OVC) won by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-22.

Sophomore Ashley Edmond led the Colonels with 11 kills.  She committed only two errors in 22 attempts for a .409 attack percentage.  Freshman Hannah Burkle had nine kills and three blocks.  Freshman Abbey Cvelbar totaled 27 assists, seven kills and two blocks.

Sarah Teel had a team-best eight kills for Tennessee Tech (2-17, 1-8 OVC).  Allison May added 11 digs for the Golden Eagles.

Eastern Kentucky broke a 6-6 tie in the first set with an 8-0 run to take control and cruise to a seven-point win.  The second set remained close until the end.  An EKU service error allowed TTU to make it a two-point game, 20-18.  However, the Colonels scored five of the final six points to take the set and a 2-0 lead in the match.

A kill by Edmond in the third set stretched the Eastern Kentucky lead to six, 19-13, but the Golden Eagles didn’t quit.  TTU cut the deficit to two on three occasions before a kill by Elise Robertson and an Eastern attack error made it a one-point margin, 23-22.  After a Colonel timeout, back-to-back errors by Tennessee Tech gave EKU the set and the match.

Eastern posted a .239 attack percentage for the match, finishing with 38 kills.  The Golden Eagles hit .106 with 31 kills.  EKU held a 4-1 advantage in blocks.

The Colonels will play their next four matches on the road beginning Friday at Southeast Missouri.  The match in Cape Girardeau is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET.
