EKU Volleyball Falls To Eagles, 3-1

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky won the first set, but fell 3-1 to Morehead State on Tuesday night at McBrayer Arena.

Set scores were 25-27, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-16 in favor of the visitors.

Ellie Roberson led Morehead State (20-6, 15-1 OVC) with a match-best 20 kills.  Alex Fuelling added 14 kills and 14 digs.  Leslie Schellhaas posted 29 digs for the winners.

Ashley Edmond led Eastern Kentucky (13-14, 8-8 OVC) with 12 kills to go along with 14 digs and a block.

A kill by Morehead State’s Emma Keough gave the Eagles a 25-24 lead in the first set.  However, a kill by Edmond tied the score and back-to-back MSU errors gave Eastern a 1-0 lead.

A service ace by Abbey Cvelbar gave EKU a 22-21 lead in the second set, but the Eagles scored the final four points to take the set and tie the match.  Consecutive kills by Fuelling ended the set.

Hannah Burkle’s kill in the third set tied the score at 17-17, but Morehead State went on an 8-3 run to end the set and take a 2-1 advantage.  After scoring the first point in the fourth set, EKU never threatened.  Two more kills by Fuelling made it 12-3 in favor of MSU and the Eagles cruised to a 9-point win.

Morehead State finished with 68 kills compared to 34 for Eastern Kentucky.  MSU held a .207 to .104 advantage in hitting and had 17 more digs.  Eastern served up five more aces and out-blocked the Eagles 5-4. 

The Colonels will host Murray State on Friday at 6 p.m.
