RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team closes out the calendar year Saturday with a matinee contest against OVC foe Tennessee State. Tip time is set for 2 p.m.
Eastern Kentucky (8-6, 2-0 OVC) will be looking to move to 3-0 in conference action for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign. The Colonels have won five of their last six games overall while holding the opposition to an average of 56.4 points per game in the five wins.
Tennessee State (8-6, 1-0) is riding a five-game winning streak following an 87-63 triumph over UT Martin Thursday night. The Tigers have shot 55 percent or better from the floor over the last three games. Junior forward Robert Covington ranks among the top five OVC players in both scoring (17.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.5 rpg).
The Colonels are 26-23 all-time against Tennessee State and 7-5 versus the Tigers under head coach
Jeff Neubauer. EKU has won the last three meetings against TSU in McBrayer Arena. The Colonels shot 61.4 percent (27-of-44) from the floor in the 86-72 win over Tennessee State last January.

--Junior guard #D’Mitri Riggs# pulled down a team season-high nine rebounds in the win over Austin Peay. Five of Riggs’ nine boards came on the offensive end of the court.
