Colonels Shoot For Season Sweep of EIU Saturday Evening

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team continues its three-game home stand Saturday night against OVC foe Eastern Illinois. The game, presented by Free Enterprise, is slated to tip at 7 p.m.

Eastern Kentucky (14-11, 8-6 OVC) has won eight straight meetings over Eastern Illinois (8-16, 4-10) in McBrayer Arena dating back to 2001. The Colonels have been particularly hot at home in their last two home games, shooting 59.1 percent (55-of-93) from the field and 47.2 percent (17-of-36) from three-point range. A win over EIU would almost guarantee that the Colonels would finish no worse than sixth in the final OVC standings.

Eastern Illinois has dropped six straight games following an 81-65 defeat at Morehead State Thursday night. The Panthers have played the last 14 games without perhaps their best player, guard Tyler Laser. The 2009-10 first team All-OVC selection is out for the season with a back injury. Fellow guard Jeremy Granger, the team’s leading scorer at 14.4 ppg, was held under 10 points for just the third time all year at Morehead State.
