EKU Faces OVC’s Top Team in Regular Season Finale

MURRAY, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team concludes its regular season schedule Saturday night at Murray State. The Wazoo Sports Network is broadcasting the game beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET.

The Colonels (15-14, 9-8 OVC) have dropped three straight games since rolling past Eastern Illinois on Feb. 12. Turnovers have been a major concern for EKU over the last few contests. Eastern Kentucky has committed 33 turnovers the last two games. In the previous four games, the Colonels had averaged just eight turnovers per game. Another concern for Eastern is the status of starting guard Joshua Jones. Jones went down with an ankle injury Thursday night at UT Martin and is questionable for the game against the Racers.

Murray State (22-7, 13-4) took a big step forward to clinching the top seed in the upcoming OVC tournament Thursday night with a 70-62 win over Morehead State. The Racers, who have won 10 of their past 11 games, lead the OVC in scoring defense (61.0 ppg) and three-point shooting (38.3 percent). MSU shot 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from long range in the victory over Morehead State.

Following Saturday’s game, Eastern Kentucky will play in the opening round of the OVC tournament in Nashville on March 2. The Colonels will either be the No. 5 or No. 6 seed, and face Southeast Missouri or UT Martin.
