EKU Begins Final Home Stand Thursday Against SEMO

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team begins a three-game home stand Thursday night against Southeast Missouri. Tip time is set for 7:30 p.m.

Eastern (13-11, 7-6 OVC) has the chance to clinch a spot for the upcoming OVC tournament Thursday against the Redhawks. A win over Southeast Missouri combined with a loss by UT Martin to Jacksonville State would ensure EKU’s spot in the league tourney for the ninth consecutive year.

Southeast Missouri (7-17, 5-8) is coming off back-to-back road wins over Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville. Forward Leon Powell was named OVC Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 7 after scoring 28 points on 90 percent shooting (9-of-10) at EIU on Feb. 5. This past Monday, Powell recorded his fifth double-double of the year (15 points, 12 rebounds) against SIUE. The Colonels held Powell to 11 points in the 64-52 win on Jan. 15.

The Colonels have won six straight meetings over the Redhawks and lead the all-time series by a count of 21-17. Junior Jaron Jones came off the bench to haul in a personal-high seven rebounds at Southeast Missouri on Jan. 15.
