KENNESAW, Ga. – Eastern Kentucky’s volleyball team will conclude the non-conference portion of its 2011 schedule this weekend at the Owl Classic hosted by Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga.
The Colonels (4-4) are riding a three-match winning streak after winning the final three matches at last week’s South Florida Invitational, including a 3-1 victory over the USF Bulls of the Big East Conference.
EKU will face Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Colonels will take on Alabama-Birmingham at noon and Troy at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Following Eastern’s big weekend at the South Florida Invitational,
Ashley Edmond and
Abbey Cvelbar earned weekly awards from the Ohio Valley Conference. Edmond was selected as the OVC Offensive Player of the Week and Cvelbar was chosen as the OVC Setter of the Week.
Edmond, a sophomore outside hitter from Michigan City, Ind., led EKU with 3.71 kills per set and 0.71 blocks per set if four matches. Cvelbar, a freshman from Euclid, Ohio, averaged 9.29 assists per set, posted a .350 attack percentage and helped her team to a .223 attack percentage. In four matches she recorded 40-plus assists twice, finishing with 40 against Bowling Green State and 48 against Bethune-Cookman.
