Colonels' Comeback Comes Up Short

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University’s volleyball team lost the first two sets but came out of the half to win sets three and four and send the match into a decisive fifth. However, the comeback fell short in a 3-2 loss to Jacksonville State on Friday.

EKU (7-15, 4-7 OVC) lost by scores of 16-25, 15-25, 26-24, 25-19 and 13-15.

The Colonels’ Alexis Plagens and Ashley Edmond contributed 15 kills each while Kelsey Kuehner had 11. Mallory Moffat had 37 assists alongside #Dena Ott’s# 24 digs.

Jacksonville State is now 12-13 this season and 6-5 in the OVC.

JSU’s Emily Rutherford and Jen Meyer had 17 kills each while Alina Agamy dealt 61 assists. Hivya Leite had 16 kills respectively with 11 in the second set alone.

In the third set, two kills by Plagens gave EKU the win after being tied 24-24. The Colonels went on an 11-4 run to win set four.

The fifth set went back and fourth. Eastern Kentucky took a 13-12 lead on a kill by Plagens before the Gamecocks scored three straight to win the match.

The Colonels will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday before their match against Tennessee Tech.  The match is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m.
