Eastern Kentucky needed to beat Murray State and have SIU Edwardsville and Tennessee-Martin lose to secure a bid to the Ohio Valley Conference tournament on the final day of the regular season.  SIUE and UTM both lost, however the Colonels fell to the Racers 3-2.

MSU won by scores of 23-25, 25-13, 25-15, 19-25 and 16-14.

The Colonels conclude the 2012 season with a 9-19 overall record and a 5-11 mark in OVC play.  The Racers finish the season 6-20 overall and 4-12 in the OVC.

Trailing 2-1, Eastern scored the first three points of the fourth set and never trailed on the way to tying the match 2-2. 

In the decisive fifth set EKU scored the first four points, but Murray State battled back and tied the set 9-9.  A kill by Kelsey Kuehner tied the score, 13-13, and got the Colonels within two points of punching their ticket to the OVC tournament.  MSU answered with a kill by Emily Schmahl, and after Kuehner tied it again the Racers scored two straight to win the match.

Ashley Edmond, Alexis Plagens and Kuehner each finished with 17 kills for EKU.  Edmond also had 20 digs.  Plagens posted a .294 attack percentage.  Freshman Rachel Vick had six blocks and nine kills.

Wendi Zickfield led Murray State with 17 kills.  Schmahl finished with 16 kills.  Alyssa Lelm had 14 kills and only two errors for a .414 attack percentage.
