RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team was held to its lowest shooting percentage of the season in a 58-45 loss to Ohio Valley Conference rival Morehead State Saturday night in McBrayer Arena.
After shooting a dismal 16.0 percent (4-of-24) from the field in the first half, EKU (14-13, 6-7 OVC) heated up to 44.0 percent (11-of-25) in the second half, but it was not enough as Morehead State (14-13, 7-6 OVC) took a double-digit lead early in the second half and cruised the rest of the way.
Morehead State has held EKU to its two lowest field goal shooting percentages of the season. Tonight, Eastern shot 30.6 percent (15-of-49) from the field while the Eagles held the Colonels to just 31.0 percent (13-of-42) shooting in Morehead on Jan. 14.
Senior
Jaron Jones led the way for EKU with 20 points, thanks to netting 3-of-3 shots from three-point range, and seven rebounds. Fellow senior
Joshua Jones finished the night with nine points.
Marsell Holden led a balanced Eagle scoring attack with 12 points, while Drew Kelly grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
EKU went into the locker room at halftime down by seven, 19-12, before Morehead State reeled off eight straight points to open the second half to make the score, 27-12. The Eagles pushed the lead to 18 on numerous occasions and Eastern never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Morehead State has now won nine of the last 11 meetings between the two teams.
The Colonels return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at Tennessee Tech. Game time is set for 8 p.m. ET.
