RICHMOND, Ky. – The last spot remaining in next week’s OVC tournament is up for grabs Saturday night when the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team hosts Eastern Illinois. The game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m.
Seven teams have already punched their ticket to Nashville for the league tournament. Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Illinois are the two teams vying for that coveted final ticket. An EKU win or SIUE win over Morehead State would put the Colonels in the league tourney. An Eastern Illinois win plus a Morehead State win over SIUE would give the Panthers the No. 8 seed. EKU has qualified for nine consecutive OVC tournaments.
Three EKU (15-15, 6-9 OVC) seniors will be playing their final regular season game Saturday –
Jeff Allgood,
Jaron Jones and
Joshua Jones. Joshua Jones will be playing in his 124th game as a Colonel
Eastern Illinois (12-16, 5-10) had won three straight league games until Morehead State snapped that streak with a 75-39 win Thursday night. The Panthers are led by senior guard Jeremy Granger, who averages 15.6 ppg and 3.1 apg. Granger scored a team-best 12 points in the first meeting against the Colonels on Feb. 2.
Eastern Kentucky is 19-13 all-time against Eastern Illinois and 11-3 versus the Panthers under head coach
Jeff Neubauer. EKU has won nine straight meetings versus Eastern Illinois in McBrayer Arena.
