Volleyball Looks To Get Back On Track In Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio –
Eastern Kentucky University’s volleyball team will look to get back on track this weekend at the Cleveland State Invitational.  The Colonels have lost four straight matches after starting the season 2-0.

EKU will take on Oakland University on Friday at 4:30 p.m.  On Saturday, the Colonels face host Cleveland State at 12:30 p.m. and Buffalo at 4:30 p.m.

Four players are averaging more than two kills per set for Eastern.  Junior Ashley Edmond leads the way with 2.8 kills per set.  She also contributes 2.05 digs and 0.40 blocks per set.  Kelsey Kuehner leads the team in blocks (0.75 per set) and averages 2.6 kills.  Freshman Rachel Vick and sophomore Alexis Plagens are chipping in with 2.25 and 2.05 kills per set.

Dena Ott leads a balanced defensive effort with 5.05 digs per set. 

Oakland enters the weekend 3-4 this season.  OU put together a three-match winning streak against Toledo, Eastern Illinois and Iowa before falling to Central Michigan.  Oakland is led by Meghan Bray’s 4.42 kills per set.

Cleveland State has a 5-3 record.  The Vikings opened the season with four straight wins over Kent State, IPFW, Murray State and Eastern Michigan.  CSU’s three losses have come to Indiana, Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh.  Kara Koch leads the team with 5.07 kills per set.

The match against Buffalo will be the second meeting between the two teams the last two weekends.  The Bulls beat EKU 3-0 last weekend at Notre Dame.  Buffalo is 3-3 overall and is led by Liz Scott’s 3.30 kills per set.
