Box Score vs. Buffalo
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Eastern Kentucky’s volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Cleveland State Invitational on Saturday. EKU fell to Cleveland State 3-0 and then beat Buffalo 3-2 to snap a six match losing skid.
CSU (7-3) won by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-18. The Colonels (3-6) beat Buffalo 25-23, 25-18, 25-27, 18-25 and 15-12.
After winning the first two sets against Buffalo, EKU trailed 24-22 in the third set. A kill by
Kelsey Kuehner followed by a Buffalo error tied the set. Eastern tied it again at 25-25, but the Bulls scored two straight to take the set and stay alive.
Buffalo (3-6) never trailed in the fourth on its way to forcing a decisive fifth set.
The Colonels jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the fifth. The Bulls battled back to tie it at 7-7 before a kill by freshman
Rachel Vick gave EKU a lead it would never relinquish. With Eastern in front 14-12, Buffalo committed a service error to end the match.
Alexis Plagens led Eastern Kentucky with 17 kills and a .375 attack percentage. She also had three block assists. Kuehner finished with 10 kills and three block assists.
Abbey Cvelbar posted 37 assists and
Dena Ott had 22 digs.
Christine Fritsche led Buffalo with 15 kills.
Against Cleveland State, Vick led Eastern with eight kills. She made only two errors in 14 attacks for a .429 hitting percentage. Marie Frease led the Vikings with 14 kills and a .565 attack percentage.
EKU will be back in action on Tuesday at Marshall. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
