RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team earned a point in the Ohio Valley Conference standings by playing Southeast Missouri State to a scoreless draw on Friday afternoon at EKU Soccer Field.

It was EKU's first home game in three weeks.

With the tie, the Colonels go to 2-9-2 (1-2-1 OVC) on the season. SEMO – still unbeaten in conference play – goes to 4-4-3 (2-0-2 OVC).

"The team fought hard and we created good chances," head coach Melissa Barnes said. "We put together a full 110 minutes against a good SEMO team, and a point in this conference is very valuable. Now we turn our attention to recovery and mentally preparing for UT Martin."

Eastern came out aggressive in the attack from the get-go. Senior Nikki Donnelly, who led all players in the game with four shots, fired a shot in the sixth minute that just missed, ricocheting off the left post. The Colonels outshot the Redhawks, 9-3, in the first 45 minutes of play.

SEMO, however, controlled the tempo of the game in the second half, outshooting EKU, 7-0.

Donnelly emerged again in the first overtime period, just missing a cross off the foot of junior Whitney Wallace that would have won the game. It was EKU's last real opportunity, as the Colonels held on for the draw and the point.

Sophomore Samm Melton started in the goal for EKU and made three saves to earn her second career shutout.

Seniors Katie Collar and Lauren Fant, junior Paige Larkin and freshman Mikayla Brillon played all 110 minutes of the hard-fought affair on EKU's backline.

Next up, the Colonels host defending OVC champion UT Martin on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
