RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team will continue Ohio Valley Conference action this weekend by hosting Murray State on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Austin Peay on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Senior Day activities will be held before Sunday's game.
EKU (2-10-2, 1-3-1 OVC) earned a point in the conference standings last Friday by battling Southeast Missouri to a scoreless draw. The Colonels then suffered a tough 1-0 loss to defending OVC champion UT Martin on Sunday afternoon.
Eastern's defense was magnificent all weekend. Senior
Lauren Fant, junior
Paige Larkin and freshman
Mikayla Brillon went the distance on the backline in both matches, as the Colonels blanked a good SEMO team for 110 minutes and went nearly 80 minutes before surrendering a score to UTM.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Samm Melton filled in admirably for fellow sophomore
Erika Wolfer, notching her first shutout of the season versus SEMO on Friday and recording a season-high seven saves in Sunday's loss to UT Martin.
Through five conference games, the EKU defense ranks first in the OVC in goals allowed (four).
Murray State (4-8-1, 1-5-0 OVC) arrives in Richmond having lost eight of its last nine games. Julie Mooney has scored seven goals and assisted on five others to leader the Racers attack.
EKU is 2-5-1 all-time versus in-state rival Murray State. The Colonels defeated the Racers in Murray last season on a game-winner by Murray native Hayley Wright.
Austin Peay (9-2-2, 4-1-1 OVC) enters the weekend in second place in the OVC. The Lady Govs split last weekend, upending first-place Eastern Illinois, 3-0, on Friday before falling to SIUE, 1-0, on Sunday. Reigning OVC Offensive Player of the Year Tatiana Ariza leads an explosive APSU offense with 13 goals this season.
EKU is 3-3-2 all-time against Austin Peay. The Colonels' last win over the Lady Govs came in 2011. Senior
Brittany Nomady – one of six seniors who will be honored before Sunday's game – scored the game-winning goal in that victory.
Following this weekend's home games, the Colonels will split next weekend, hosting Belmont on Friday before travelling to Tennessee Tech on Sunday.
