MOREHEAD, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at rival Morehead State on Wednesday.
The Eagles (12-5, 3-0 OVC) won by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-16.
A kill by 
Alexis Plagens and a Morehead State error gave EKU (7-10, 1-2 OVC) an early 8-5 lead in the first set.  However, MSU went on a 6-1 run to secure the lead and never trailed again.  The Colonels were down just four, 22-18, after a kill by 
Ashley Edmond and another Eagle error, but Morehead State scored three straight to take the set.
MSU scored five of the first six points in the second set and never trailed.  A kill by Plagens followed by a Morehead State error had Eastern within two, 19-17, before the Eagles scored five straight to reach set-point.  The set ended on an EKU attack error.
Morehead State led for all of the third set, except for a brief time during a 1-1 tie.  A kill by 
Johanna Boyer closed the gap for the Colonels to four, 18-14, but Morehead State ended the set and the match with a 7-2 run.
Edmond finished with a match-high 11 kills.  
Dena Ott led all players with 23 digs.  Alex Fitzmorris contributed a team-best 10 kills for MSU.  She made just three errors in 22 attacks for a .318 hitting percentage.  Hanna Sigala had eight blocks and Aryn Bohannon had seven for the winning team.
The Eagles totaled only five more kills than the Colonels, but committed 14 fewer errors and had a 11-1 edge in blocks.
EKU ends a stretch of 14 straight matches away from home on Saturday at Austin Peay.  The match is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m. ET.
