EKU Volleyball Season Ends In OVC Tournament Semifinals

Eastern Kentucky's volleyball season came to an end today with a 3-1 loss to Southern Illinois Edwardsville in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament semifinals in Morehead, Ky.

The Colonels conclude the season with an 18-16 record and having won their first OVC Tournament match since 2005.

SIUE (14-17) won by scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-18.

Ashley Edmond led Eastern Kentucky with a match-best 19 kills. Alexis Plagens added 10 kills. Dena Ott led all players with 23 digs.

The first set was tied 23-23 when the Cougars scored on a Kristen Torre kill and an EKU error to take the set and an early 1-0 lead. Eastern answered in the second. With a 23-22 lead, Edmond's kill brought set-point. Moments later a kill by Alexis Plagens ended the set and tied the match 1-1.

In the key third set, the Colonels had a 20-19 lead before SIU Edwardsville went on a 6-1 run to end the set and take a 2-1 lead. Eastern never led in the fourth set. The Cougars used a 9-3 run to break a 6-6 tie and go on top by six, 15-9. A kill by Kelsey Augustine ended the match and sent SIUE into the championship game.

Augustine led SIU Edwardsville with 17 kills. Torre had 14 kills, only two errors and a .375 attack percentage.
