EKU Volleyball Hosts Two Pivotal OVC Matches This Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team will host Ohio Valley Conference foes Belmont and Tennessee State this weekend at McBrayer Arena. The Colonels have won eight of their previous nine matches.

Friday's match is scheduled for 7 p.m. and Saturday's match is set is 2 p.m.

Belmont (16-12, 9-3 OVC) brings an eight-match OVC winning streak to Richmond. Seniors Allison McCoy and Jen Myer, along with junior Alex Martin rank in the top five in the OVC in hitting percentage, giving the Bruins the second-best team average (.209) in the conference. McCoy leads the conference (.370) while Myer (.324) and Martin (.299) rank fourth and fifth, respectively.

Belmont also ranks third in the OVC in assists (12.24 per set) and fourth in kills (12.92 per set).

Tennessee State (10-13, 6-6 OVC) comes to Richmond trailing Eastern Kentucky by a single match in the OVC East. The Tigers are led by junior Naomi Wells, averaging 3.79 kills per set, a conference-best. As a team, the Tigers rank fourth in assists (12.14 per set) and fifth in kills (12.81 per set.)

The Tigers have won five of their previous six matches against OVC opponents.

EKU senior Ashley Edmond and junior Dena Ott were named OVC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their performances last weekend for the Colonels.

Edmond posted a .383 attack percentage and tallied 22 kills in the 3-0 win over Tennessee Tech. Ott recorded 26 kills in the four-set win over Jacksonville State and contributed 24 digs in the match against Tech.

Edmond ranks third in kills (3.51 per set) in the OVC and junior Alexis Plagens ranks tenth (2.90 per set). Ott ranks third in digs (4.77 per set).

Eastern Kentucky (15-13, 7-5 OVC) defeated Tennessee State 3-0 earlier in the season, but fell to Belmont 3-0 in Nashville.
