RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team will take on No. 1 ranked Penn State Saturday. The Colonels will play their first match in the Penn State Classic Friday against Yale at 4:30 p.m. Friday's match will be the first of the three-team, two day event in State College, Pa.
Eastern Kentucky looks to end its current six-match losing streak. The Colonels started the 2013 season 4-0, but have dropped its previous six matches.
The Colonels will face Yale (4-2) Friday in the first match. Yale, the defending Ivy League champions, won its most recent match against Army, 3-1.
On Saturday, the Colonels will have a chance to shock the world, taking on the No. 1 team in the country. Penn State moved up the rankings from the No. 3 spot to take the No. 1 ranking, receiving 45 of 60 first-place votes.
Penn State (6-1) has lost only three sets on the season — those three coming from its lone loss against Texas.
In Saturday's second match, the Colonels will take on the University of Albany at 4 p.m. The Great Danes are winless on the year, but have faced stiff competition. Albany's last loss came at No. 18 North Carolina.
Eastern Kentucky ranks second in the OVC, averaging 1.52 service aces per set. The Colonels average 12.25 kills per set — which is fifth best in the conference.
