NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky's men's basketball team will take its three-game winning streak on the road to Music City to face Tennessee State and Belmont.
Tipoff on Thursday at TSU is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. The live radio broadcast is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com. A live video broadcast is available on OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
The Colonels (13-6, 4-2 OVC) will play Belmont for the second time in nine days on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
Junior
Eric Stutz poured in a season-high 20 points to lead Eastern to a 60-56 win over visiting Jacksonville State on Saturday. The contest was close throughout as the largest lead by either team was six points, and that came early in the game.
EKU won despite having one of its worst shooting nights of the season. The Colonels netted just 36.8 percent (14-of-38) of their shots from the field, marking just the third time this year Eastern finished below 40 percent.
Glenn Cosey added 17 points, 11 of which came from the free throw line.
After allowing its first three OVC opponents to average 81 points per game, the Colonels have held their previous three league foes to 61.3 points per game.
Along with Stutz, one of the hottest Colonels right now is
Tarius Johnson. Over the last two games, the senior has made 53.3 percent of his shots from the field, 50 percent from behind the arc and is averaging 12 points per game.
Tennessee State (2-19, 1-6 OVC) suffered its fifth straight loss on Saturday at home against Belmont. The Bruins won 79-65 after shooting 51 percent from the field and 42 percent (10-for-24) from three-point range.
Only two Tigers average more than 7.6 points per game, 6-foot-1 senior guard Patrick Miller (22.1 ppg) and 6-foot-9 junior forward M.J. Rhett (10.5 ppg). Miller is 10th in the nation in scoring.
Miller had 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists against Belmont. Rhett finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Tennessee State has allowed 76.3 points per game this season. That number goes up to 77.6 in the team's seven OVC games. TSU has made just 26.5 percent of its three-point attempts this season.
