RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University's volleyball team beat Morehead 3-0 on Wednesday at McBrayer Arena.
Dena Ott surpassed the EKU record of 2,454 career digs tonight, finishing with 13 digs against MSU. Ott broke the record, held by Brittany Nobilio, on a dig early in the second set that led to a kill by Johanna Boyer and gave the Colonels a 3-1 lead. Ott now has 2,461 career digs.
EKU won by scores of 25-22, 25-17, and 25-22.
Senior
Alexis Plagens led the Colonels (20-13, 10-5 OVC) with a match best nine kills while adding 12 digs.
Ally Peters,
Johanna Boyer, and
Abbey Cvelbar finished with seven kills each.
In the first set Eastern won 25-22 off of a Cvelbar kill and a Morehead State attack error. The two teams were tied 11 times during the set. In the second set the Colonels jumped out to an 8-3 lead and cruised to win 25-17 after a Plagens service ace. In the third set MSU went on a 5-0 run to tie up the set 20-20, but Eastern won the match from two Eagle attack errors.
EKU had an edge with five more kills, 39-34. Morehead State had one more service ace, but the Colonels had seven less service errors than MSU.
The Eagle's Laura McDermott led the team with 13 kills. Hannah Sigala contributed nine kills. Hope Rillema led both teams with a high of 17 digs.
The Colonels' next match will be against Austin Peay State University on Saturday at 4 p.m. for senior night.
