RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team held its first spring practice of the 2014 season Monday afternoon at Roy Kidd Stadium.
The players went through the first of 15 official practices in helmets only and without contact.

New faces: A few key additions made their EKU debuts Monday – defensive back Tyrell Curry, running back Dy'Shawn Mobley, and punter Keith Wrzusczak. Curry is expected to compete for playing time at the safety position vacated by
Christian Albertson. Mobley, a transfer from Kentucky, will be in the mix for touches in the backfield. Finally, Wrzusczak has some big shoes to fill left by fellow Australian punter
Jordan Berry.

-Old faces, new places: A handful of returnees have been moved around the field in hopes of building a stronger team. Running back
Thomas Owens will try his hands at inside linebacker this spring. Safety
Chris Owens is lining up at outside linebacker. Redshirt freshman Dominick Brown is now at the Colonel position on the defensive line after playing linebacker in the fall. Defensive lineman
Justin Adekoya has switched sides to try offensive tackle.

One more shot: Tight end
Matt Lengel was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA and will hopefully be an impact player this fall. He is expected to participate in non-contact drills this spring and was suited up on the first day of practice.
--
Scrimmages: The Colonels are slated to hold scrimmages on the Saturday mornings of April 5 and April 12. The spring game is set for Thursday night, April 24 at 7 p.m.
