RICHMOND, Ky. – Thanks to three straight wins to start the 2014 campaign, the Eastern Kentucky University football team has earned a spot in both major FCS top-25 polls this week – No. 22 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 23 in
The Sports Network (media) Poll.
The Colonels are 3-0 for the first time since the 1992 season. This past weekend, Eastern scored touchdowns on six of its first eight possessions on the way to a convincing 55-13 win over former OVC rival Morehead State. EKU's defense has held each of its first three opponents under 100 yards rushing. The Colonels currently rank fourth nationally (FCS) in rushing defense (49.3 yards per game).
Joining EKU in the polls are two other OVC teams – Jacksonville State (No. 8/9) and Tennessee State (No. 20).
The No. 22/23 Colonels begin their quest for a 22nd OVC title this Saturday, Sept. 20 at UT Martin. The game will be televised by ESPN3 beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
