RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky volleyball team opens Ohio Valley Conference action this weekend at Belmont on Friday and Tennessee State on Saturday. Both games will be in Nashville, Tennessee.
 
The Colonels (10-6) will be looking to shut down Belmont (4-9) on Friday, which is ranked second in blocking in the OVC. The Bruins' senior and team leader in blocks, Alex Martin, has accumulated 42 total blocks in non-conference play this year. Belmont lost its last previous match to Liberty, 3-1. Friday's match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EST.  The match will air live on OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
 
On Saturday, Eastern will need to stop Naomi Wells, a returning redshirt senior, who leads the Tigers with 166 kills and is averaging 3.19 kills per set. The Tigers lost their previous match against Cincinnati, 3-1.
 
Eastern Kentucky's Rachel Vick leads the OVC in hitting percentage (.375). Vick also posted 13 kills and a .524 hitting percentage against Norfolk State last weekend.  She earned all-tournament honors at the Carolina Classic. Senior Alexis Plagens is third in the OVC with 172 kills and Dena Ott is ranked fourth with 4.55 digs per set. Abbey Cvelbar is second in the OVC with 10.32 assists per set.
