The Colonels (10-6, 2-1 OVC) had a streak of eight straight games without allowing 70 or more points before falling to Eastern Illinois 72-65 on Thursday.  Eastern was down 13 with 8:57 left but climbed back within two in the closing minutes.

Senior guard Corey Walden had a game-high 29 points.  He is shooting 56.1 percent from the field this season and has scored 20 or more points in three straight games, and four of his last five.

Offensively, EKU has scored 70 or more points in a game only twice in its last 11 games.  The Colonels have been held under 70 in six straight.  SIU Edwardsville has held two Division I opponents to 38 points this season (Chicago State and Tennessee State).

Southern Illinois Edwardsville is 7-9 overall and 3-2 in OVC games.  However, after falling at Morehead State, 91-63, on Thursday the Cougars are now 0-7 on the road this season.  In its seven road games, SIUE has lost by an average of 14 points per game.  The Cougars have home court conference victories over Jacksonville State, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State.

Kris Davis, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, leads the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game.  No other player averages double figures, but 6-foot guard Donivine Stewart (9.9 ppg) and 6-foot-4 senior forward Rozell Nunn (9.8 ppg) are within in shouting distance.  Davis is shooting 47 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range.

As a team, SIU Edwardsville is fifth in the OVC in scoring (70.8 ppg) and second in three-point shooting (37.9 percent).  The Cougars have made only 66 percent of their free throws.

Morehead State shot 54 percent from the field and held SIUE to 28 percent shooting on Thursday.  Davis had 11 points on 2-of-7 shooting from the field.  Jalen Henry, a 6-foot-8 freshman forward, had a team best 12 points.

The last time these two teams played, a late 14-2 run doomed Eastern Kentucky in an 85-79 loss at Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Jan. 4, 2014.

The Colonels led 62-60 with 9:27 left in the game.  The Cougars then scored 14 of the next 16 points.  Eight straight points by Tim Johnson and a free throw from Michael Messer capped the run and gave the home squad a 74-64 lead with 4:42 left to play.

Eastern was behind by 11, 79-68, with 2:33 on the clock.  However, the Colonels used an 11-2 run over the next 1:33 to draw within two.  Glenn Cosey started it with a three-pointer and Orlando Williams finished it off with a three to draw the visitors to within 81-79 with a minute left.  SIUE answered with a lay-up at the other end.  On the next EKU possession, Corey Walden got an open three-point attempt that would have cut the Cougar lead to one, but the shot missed.

Cosey led all players with 23 points.  Walden finished with 19.  Stewart led SIUE with 15 points.

The series is tied 3-3.  SIU Edwardsville has won three of the last four meetings between the two teams.  The Colonels are 2-1 in games played in Richmond.
